The American and French Revolutions were similar, and yet very different. Their outcomes were equally similar and different. The principles that were fought for were the same – that is they both believed in freedom and equality. The reasons for starting the revolutions were very different. Both revolutions succeeded, but neither of them on the first try. Americans succeeded first, probably because all of them believed in the cause, they were united. The French were still divided, arguing about the best course of action. The arguing slowed things down, and in some cases made progress impossible, or close to impossible.
