Female Genital Mutilation
Female genital mutilation (FGM), or female circumcision, is a procedure that involves cutting off the clitoris and sometimes sewing the opening of the vagina shut. Often performed with unsterilized razors and no anesthesia, FGM is excruciatingly painful. Not only do these victims experience intense bleeding, dangerous infections, and possibly infertility — they also carry emotional scars that will never heal.
