Enlightened Generations

It is quite simple to apply the idea of "Feminist Theory" to Isabel Allende's House of Spirits. Women throughout generations have been repressed and are slowly beginning to change their thinking and their actions. The older generation of women in Allende's book are dependent on the men in their lives for everything from political to economical duties. …a trend of irresponsibility that reoccurs in his disrespect for other lower class workers as well. The younger generation of women in this novel are the first feminists. They take a stand and speak out against the patriarchal society. They take charge of their own lives and no longer depend on the men for survival. This independence is true feminist theory, and Allende does an excellent job of showing her readers what feminism is about.
