Edo, Meiji, and Taisho periods.

The Edo period was 1600-1868. During this time Tokugawa Ieyasu who was a famous shogun reorganized the feudal system and put in place a military government. This happened in the city of Edo, which is known today as Tokyo. Tokugawa Ieyasu considered the European power as a threat so he decided to make a closed-door policy. …The Lansing Ishii agreement in 1917 was a pledge between Japan and China to keep an "open door' policy. The Siberian expedition forced seventy-five thousand Japanese troops to deploy. Soon after, rice riots erupted in towns and cities throughout Japan. World War I let Japan expand its ideas in Asia and its territorial holdings in the pacific. On their own the Japanese navy seized Germany's Micronesian colonies. The post war era brought Japan wealth and prosperity.
