"Doe Season" is a story that uses symbolisms and parallels to relate the turbulent and confusing transition of a young girl going through an initiation of a child into adulthood. Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects is how the author uses the ocean and the forest to symbolize manhood and womanhood. …womanhood. The author, David Kaplain, succeeds in adding a lot more into his writing than meets the eye. His clever use of symbolisms adds a much deeper meaning to the story. The final line: "while all around her roared the mocking of the terrible, now inevitable sea", makes it clear that Andy is finally ready to leave the safe, comfortable, haven of the forest of manhood to enter the vast and unknown ocean of womanhood.
