…Finally, Khrushchev was dismissed as the Soviet leader in 1964, mainly for his poor showing in the Cuban Missile Crisis. A little over a year later, President Kennedy was assassinated. The Cuban Missile Crisis pitted the two superpowers, the U.S.A. and the U.S.S.R., against one another. In the end, through a diplomatic frenzy and naval quarantine, the U.S.A. was able to come out on top as the clear victor.
