There are many styles of music played across Canada today. Many of the styles of music produced by Canadian artists are hard to recognize as Canadian content. The reason for the lack of Canadian identity is due to the similarity of music coming from the United States. The five of the six articles of music played in class are a perfect example of music lacking Canadian identity.

The Tragically Hip have become such a popular band over the last 15 years that many Canadians have their own opinion about the band, sometimes good and sometimes bad. The style of the “Hip’s” music is definitely recognizable as Canadian. Their lyrics are always on a Canadian topic and that is a very important facet for a Canadian band in today’s Americanized music industry.
