Although they were very different, they both possessed an essence of history; one pertaining to the tale of King Arthur, and the other displaying the American Civil War. Avalon provided a modern fictional depiction of the King Arthur legend and how it changed the life of an average man destined for greatness, while The Killer Angels allowed the reader to see the battle of Gettysburg from both sides of the spectrum.
