John Howard Griffin was born in Dallas, Texas, on June 16,1920. He is famous for being a very talented writer. In his life he wrote over eleven books. John was not going to be a writer. During WWII he served with the French Resistance Army until he was blinded. John was only nineteen. He was blind from 1946 to 1957. During that time he wrote five novels, two of them were published.

I also realized that there was racism, before I was kind of unaware that it really did happen. I learned that it was just because the color of their skin and not the kind of person they were. I never realized how terrible some of the treatment towards them was. I learned several things from this book about
