James Edward Hervey MacDonald is a painter, designer, artist, writer, poet and the major force and inspiration in the formation of the Group of Seven.
He was born in Durham, England sometime in 1873. He came to Canada with his family in 1887 and went on to study at the Hamilton Art School and the Central Ontario School of Art and Design. …showed last 75 words of 435 total…his recovery was to Algoma in a boxcar with artists, Harris and Johnston. Many critics say that this should be called the MacDonald Era. His most famous work of art in the Algoma's would be the Wild River. His palette in this time changed to darker and richer colours, following Jackson's. His colours were fiery and leaned toward an Asian theme.
Today he teaches at the Ontario College of Art and recently became principal
there.
