Are we a Nation?

…are united because we share a same common idea; the idea of the American dream. In these matters, if people abandon their cultural backgrounds and unite as one, they can establish what can truly be called an American culture, since they all share the same customs. If the melting pot theory is true, America can be considered a nation. However, the diversity of cultures according to the salad bowl theory contradicts the melting pot theory.
