Andrew Johnson was born in the year 1808, in the town of Raleigh, North Carolina. He grew in poverty, and was apprenticed to a tailor as a boy. Later in his life he and his family ran away from the town of Raleigh, North Carolina, where they found themselves in Greeneville, Tennessee.
