There are many mentally destructive diseases in our world putting millions, if
not billions, of people at risk. Of these many diseases, one of the most damaging
is Alzheimer’s Disease. Alzheimer’s Disease is a progressive, degenerative
disease of the brain, and the most common form of dementia. It is one of several disorders
that cause the gradual loss of brain cells. The disease was first described in 1906 by
German physician Dr., Alois Alzheimer(

Researchers have
also found a plaque in the brain that seems to be responsible for memory loss. Animal
studies have demonstrated that the loss is reversible when the protein is attacked by an
anti-body(Alzheimer’s Association, 2002).
Researchers continue to look for new treatments to alter the course of the disease and other
strategies to improve the life of people with dementia to the future looks promising. This
concludes my report on Alzheimer’s disease.
