When she called him back he told her that her mother had stabbed her self in the stomach fourteen times, and that she was dead.
Sophi returned home to Haiti to attend her mothers’ funeral and to mend her broken heart. While she was there she learned that “I came from a place where breath, eyes, and memory are one, a place from which you carry your past like hair on your head.”
