A Slumber Did My Spirit Seal
The poem that I have chosen to study is called “A Slumber Did My Spirit Seal”, and it was written by William Wordsworth, in seventeen-ninety-nine.

A slumber did my spirit seal;
I had no human fears:
She seemed a thing that could not feel
The touch of earthly years.
No motion has she now, no force;
She neither hears nor sees;
Rolled round in earth's diurnal course,
With rocks, and stones, and trees.

but instead there is a natural and somewhat serene death. The first quatrain is quite fast moving and lively, while the second is slower, and morose. There is dramatic difference between the quatrains, which parallels the dramatic difference between the poet’s attitudes and beliefs before and after his friend’s death. Essentially it the contrast between the language and imagery, the tone, and the tempo of the two quatrains that expresses the authors concerns.
