experiences shared by Carl Zuckmayer and countless other youths at the time. However, the hours spent in class studying this volatile period in German history has made me appreciate even more the freedoms I possess and the men who died to preserve them. I respect the courage of people like Carl Zuckmayer and wonder if I would ever be capable of the same if faced with a similar situation.
