A Comparison of Marlowe and Ralegh

…For Marlowe, the question never comes up. For him, the joy seems to be merely in the asking. There is no thought towards tomorrow. There is only happiness in the idea that his lady might accept his offer and come live with him amongst the fields. For Ralegh, there is no joy in the triumph that love wins for today. There is only cynicism at the shepherds foolishness and knowledge of the winter to come.
